Bayern Munich captain Manuel Neuer is ready for a stint on the sidelines after tearing his calf muscle throughout a celebration in Wednesday’s 3-0 Champions League win over Bayer Leverkusen.

Neuer was seen limping and was subbed out within the second half of the final 16 first leg tie simply after Jamal Musiala put Bayern 2-0 up.

Neuer’s substitution introduced debutant Jonas Urbig from the bench.

Bayern issued a press release on Thursday confirming the 38-year-old’s damage, saying Neuer “could be out in the interim”.

“It occurred whereas celebrating,” Bayern coach Vincent Kompany stated after the match, including “that is a disgrace for us”.
