Report: Alonso paid greater than €60,000 for reproduction Bundesliga trophies

Earlier this week, Marcel Daum, assistant coach at Bayer Leverkusen and son of former Bundesliga coach Christoph Daum, posted a photograph of a barely smaller Bundesliga trophy on a pedestal in an Instagram story with the textual content “Thanks, boss!”.

In accordance with Bild, Daum – together with each member of Leverkusen’s teaching workers – acquired the trophy from head coach Xabi Alonso forward of Saturday’s 2-0 win over Augsburg as a thanks for the work they put in final season to assist the membership win the German double.

The report goes on to say that Alonso spent some huge cash on the gesture. He apparently paid round €6,000 to have every trophy made by Bremen silversmiths Koch und Bergfeld, who maintain the licence to make the replicas. In all, he had 11 replicas made, for a complete price of between €60,000 and €70,000.

“I’ve a replica of all of the trophies I’ve gained at residence. Now I’ve one among this championship trophy. This success is a pleasant reminiscence for everybody. That is why I did it,” Xabi Alonso advised Bild of his gesture, which he had knowledgeable Leverkusen’s managing director for sport, Simon Rolfes, of prematurely.

“It is a fantastic gesture from Xabi and good proof that the coaches are an excellent crew,” Rolfes is quoted as saying.
