Premier League referee Coote sacked after Klopp video rant

Premier League official David Coote was sacked on Monday after referee chiefs described his place as “untenable” over a video making derogatory remarks about former Liverpool supervisor Jurgen Klopp.

Coote, 42, was suspended final month after the video emerged on social media by which he branded Klopp “smug” and used offensive language.

“Following the conclusion of a radical investigation into David Coote’s conduct, his employment with PGMOL (Skilled Recreation Match Officers Restricted) has been terminated at this time with fast impact,” the PGMOL mentioned in an announcement.

“David Coote’s actions had been discovered to be in severe breach of the provisions of his employment contract, together with his place deemed untenable.

“Supporting David Coote continues to be necessary to us and we stay dedicated to his welfare.”

The video appeared to confer with a match that Coote officiated between Liverpool and Burnley in July 2020, which completed 1-1.

Klopp criticised Coote after the match, saying the referee had been too lenient in his therapy of Burnley challenges.

Coote can also be the topic of UEFA disciplinary proceedings after a video emerged of him allegedly snorting a white powder throughout Euro 2024.

The Soccer Affiliation is investigating additional allegations Coote mentioned betting on giving a yellow card with a fan earlier than a match in England’s second-tier Championship.

His ultimate Premier League recreation was Liverpool’s 2-0 win towards Aston Villa on November 9.
